Mt. Gilead State Park offers more than three miles of hiking trails. The Sam's Creek Self-guided Nature Trail starts near the east end of the camping area and meanders around the stream. Trails provide opportunities for exercise, nature study and wildlife observation.

Malabar Farm State Park offers scenic trails through the woods containing plants brought in by Louis Bromfield, an innovator in agriculture, as well as a famous Hollywood script writer. You can also tour his beautiful home, where Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall were married, or the Amish-built barn with its farm animals, or Jeez Hill, so named by Jimmy Cagney.

Mohican State Park offers 33 miles of trails in a large evergreen forest, with stone bridges built by members of the Civilian Conservation Corps under President Roosevelt.
